A proposal to build a new detention facility in Gary failed last year. The world’s leading provider of detention services, the GEO Group, has been searching for a new immigration processing facility in the Chicago area since 2011. They have looked at Crete, Illinois and at Hobart, Indiana. Now, one group says, they are back to considering Hobart again. We’ll hear why a coalition of groups, including the Northwest Indiana Federation of Interfaith Organizations and Concerned Citizens of Hobart, oppose the facility.
