Despite a recent streak of price stability and a generous share of attention on Reddit boards and tech blogs across the internet, the virtual currency ‘bitcoin’ has failed to impress top economists like U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and Nobel Prize winner Robert J. Shiller, who both came out against the currency in Davos this week. Add to that the arrest of one of the virtual market’s big players in relation to the black market site The Silk Road, and you’ve got a tough media week for bitcoins.
