World renowned chef, author, and television personality, Anthony Bourdain, has passed away today at the age of 61, of an apparent suicide. He is survived by his 11 year old daughter, Ariane Bourdain. He was known for his wildly popular series’, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, The Layover, and most recently, CNN’s Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. He first gained popularity with his book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. Bourdain was also an outspoken advocate for issues, such as the Me Too movement, the struggles of Latinos in the food industry, and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. CNN released the following statement: “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food, and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.” Chicago Tribune Food and Dining Reporter, chef, and previous location scout for No Reservations, Louisa Chu, joins us to discuss Anthony Bourdain’s legacy.
