The latest production at Chicago theater company Theatre Y is ‘The Binding,’ a philosophical and poetic play inspired by the Testament of Abraham, a second century Jewish legend descended from apocalyptic and mystical traditions. Abraham is a critical figure in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Theatre Y is steeped in the theatrical tradition of Eastern Europe, and ‘The Binding’ features choreography by Hungarian-Serbian husband and wife choreographers Denes Debrei and Heni Varga, who spent the month of August in residency with Theatre Y. For our latest Global Artists in Chicago series, we talk with Heni Varga, and Theatre Y artistic director Melissa Lorraine. (Photo: Theatre Y/Devron Enarson)
