Theresa May Faces Another Disastrous Brexit Vote
By Steve BynumTheresa May Faces Another Disastrous Brexit Vote
By Steve BynumBritish Prime Minister Theresa May appears headed for another parliamentary defeat to her plans to take the UK out of the European Union by March 29. A vote on Tuesday night by the House of Commons will likely reject her modifications to her government’s negotiated agreement with the EU. A defeat will lead to another vote on Wednesday on whether to leave the EU, even without a negotiated deal (No Deal). Also seemingly destined for defeat, the Wednesday vote could force May to request that Parliament approves extending the March 29 final deadline. One complication is resolving the border issue between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, which will remain in the EU after Northern Ireland leaves. For an update, we’ll talk with the BBC’s Ireland correspondent, Chris Page. He’s currently reporting from Derry (Londonderry).
