When playwright Michele Lowe lived in Chicago, her home was ransacked and robbed, twice. Each time, she lost objects of great sentimental value. The robberies led Lowe to take a deeper interest in stolen antiquities. Her personal loss is the motivation for her play, Inana. The work is about an Iraqi antiquities curator trying desperately to save his country’s historical heritage after looting ensues from the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq. But ‘Inana’ is also the Babylonian goddess of war and love, so matters will get complicated for him. Lowe tells us more about the process she went through to write the play.
