Last week, Uruguay’s Congress passed a law that massively expands rights of its transgender citizens. The law states that gender affirming surgery, and hormone therapy, are human rights, and ensures that support and treatment will be paid by the Uruguayan state. This news follows reports that the Trump administration plans to roll back protections for transgender people. This proposal entails “defining gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth”. Activists have been protesting outside of the White House, this week, chanting “We will not be erased”. Joining us to discuss is Graeme Reid, director of the LGBT Rights Program for Human Rights Watch.

Reid is in Chicago for the 2018 Human Rights Watch-Chicago “Voices for Justice” Awards Dinner, tonight 6:00pm at Revel Fulton Market, 1215 W Fulton Market
