Trump and G.O.P Stoke Fears of a Migrant Caravan

On Monday, President Trump claimed, via a series of tweets, that he would declare a “national emergency” over the Central American migrant caravan heading towards the United States, through Mexico. He tweeted, “Every time you see a Caravan or people illegally coming, or attempting to come, into our Country illegally, think of and blame the Democrats for not giving us the votes to change our pathetic Immigration Laws! Remember the Midterms!” He also warned that he may send the military to the border. Earlier this year, Trump signed a proclamation to send thousands of National Guard members to the border to confront thousands of migrants and asylum-seekers. Many Governors ignored the order.  Joining us from El Salvador to discuss is Oscar Chacon, cofounder and executive director of the Chicago-based Alianza Americas, a network of nearly 50 organizations that serves Latin American and Caribbean immigrants.
