Trump Meets Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov After Firing FBI Director

President Donald Trump meets with Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, Wednesday in the White House. This comes one day after Trump fired FBI director James Comey, who has been investigating collusion between the new administration and Russia.

President Trump’s campaign promised to improve relations with Russia, especially after sanctions the U.S. levied against Russia for its aggression against Ukraine. In a recent article in The Hill titled “Is Trump throwing Ukraine to the Kremlin sharks?”, Anders Åslund tries to uncover how the U.S. position against Russia has changed. 

Åslund is a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council. He joins us to discuss the meeting between Lavrov and Trump, and what the FBI investigation may have meant for the two of them.
