Earlier this week Turkey shot down a Syrian military helicopter that had flown into Turkish airspace. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has pressed for a greater response by the international community to the ongoing conflict in Syria. According to the United Nations, Turkey has taken in an estimated 500,000 Syrian refugees and tensions along the Turkish-Syrian border have been increasing in recent weeks.
