In December of 1981, U.S.-trained Salvadoran troops in El Mozote, El Salvador massacred 1,000 people, including 400 children. It was one of the largest human rights violations in modern Latin American history. The University of Chicago is commemorating El Mozote with a day-long series on Saturday, November 1, 2014. We’ll talk about what happened in 1981 and discussing the lasting impact with with panelists from the event, Oscar Chacon (NALAAC), Eric Stover (UC-Berkeley, UChicago Pozen Visiting Professor of Human Rights), and PFCHR executive director Susan Gzesh.
