Earlier today, President Trump’s Defense Secretary, James Mattis, and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, called for an immediate ceasefire in Yemen. Pompeo called on the U.N. to lead peace negotiations in order to end the three year-long civil war that has devastated the country. Around 22 million people require aid in Yemen. Around 8.4 million civilians are on the brink of starvation. Shireen Al-Adeimi is a Yemeni scholar, activist, and an assistant professor at Michigan State University. She joins us to discuss the ongoing conflict, and the possible motivations behind U.S. efforts to end hostilities in Yemen, led by a Saudi Arabia coalition.
