In a new Museum of Contemporary Art exhibition, Iraqi-American artist Michael Rakowitz has created a place to “humanize what was being dehumanized during the [Iraq] war.”
His exhibition “Backstroke of the West” uses illustrated objects, installations, and performances to explore the missing cultural context of Iraq. Rakowitz says the exhibit creates a space where Iraq will be discussed as something “real and breathing.” It runs through March 4, 2018.
Global citizen Nari Safavi talks with Rakowitz about his artwork and will also clue us into more global events to check out this weekend.
