Barbara Jones-Hogu was a prominent black artist in Chicago in the 1970s. She died in November of last year. The DePaul Art Museum is currently showcasing her first solo museum exhibition.

A founding member of the African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists and a central figure of the Black Arts movement, Jones-Hogu created iconic paintings, lithographs, and paintings inspired by the African-American activism of the time. Her work is displayed in the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Julie Widholm Rodrigues, director and chief curator at the DePaul Art Museum, joins Worldview to discuss Jones-Hogu’s legacy. “Barbara Jones-Hogu: Resist, Relate, Unite 1968-1975” is showing until March 25.

We’ll also talk with global citizen Nari Safavi about other things to do with your international good time this weekend.
