Mercy Street Theatre Company’s production of Luz Estrada follows the life of a woman on a mission.

Luz volunteers for her town’s long-vacant sheriff position after her family is murdered by the local drug lord. The play is inspired by Marisol Valles Garcia, who was called “the bravest woman in Mexico” when she was the only person to apply for the sheriff position in her town.

Nari Safavi talks with the playwright behind Luz Estrada , Dusty Wilson. Also joining us is the production’s assistant director, Sonja Lynn Mata. Plus, a few more global picks you don’t want to miss this weekend!
