Weekend Passport: Play, "I Call My Brothers" on Muslim Exclusion/Identity in Sweden

Stage director Abhi Shrestha says about his current project, “I Call My Brothers”, now playing at Chicago’s Rivendell Theatre, “At a point in time where my community feels explicitly under attack – doing this play is scary.” By community, Shrestha means MENASA (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia). “I Call My Brothers” follows Arab-Swedish Amor as he navigates the aftermath of a car bomb attack in Stockholm. Shrestha sees doing the play as a personal “love letter to [his] MENASA community saying ‘I hear you, I see you, you are not alone." For today’s Weekend Passport, Worldview talks with two Chicago-based actors performing in “I Call My Brothers”: Salar Ardebili, who plays Amor; and Gloria Imseih Petrelli, playing various roles, including Valeria. As always, our global citizen, Nari Safavi, is here with ideas to help you plan your international weekend!
