Michael A. Nutter, former mayor of Philadelphia, has said of his tenure in city office that he is most proud of having seen a reduction in the city’s homicide rate and an increase in the college graduation rate, as well as having guided the city through an economic recession. Since leaving public service in 2016, Nutter has been a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council and a professor of professional practice in urban policy at Columbia SIPA, among other roles. He is also a distinguished fellow of global cities at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Nutter joins the show to talk about what it means for an American mayor to be leading a global city, offering comments on the tension between security and surveillance.

Worldview has partnered with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs to bring you voices from the Pritzker Forum on Global Cities, which runs June 5-7, 2019.
