What the 'El Chapo' escape means for Mexico

Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, king of Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel, escaped from a maximum security prison outside of Mexico City over the weekend . His escape came despite a guarantee by Mexico’s President, Enrique Peña Nieto, that Guzman, who’s broken out of prison numerous times, would never escape again on his watch. We’ll talk about the jailbreak with Laura Carlsen, director of the Americas Program for the Center for International Policy, based in Mexico City. She also hosts an online television program called, “Interview from Mexico”. Carlsen will tell us why she believes complicity by the Mexican government, and neglect by the U.S. government, were responsible for Guzman’s escape. (Photo: Flickr/Day Donaldson)
