Why Immigration Is Also A Black And LGBT Issue
While both Black and LGBT communities have a longstanding legacy of fighting for civil rights, immigration is not often an issue associated with them.
According to the Black Alliance for Just Immigration there are as many as 5 million black immigrants in the U.S. The Center for American Progress found that there are at least 267,000 LGBT adult undocumented immigrants living in the United States today.
To discuss how black and LGBT immigration is being left out of the larger immigrant rights discourse, we turn to Alan Palaez Lopez, a PhD candidate at the University of California, Berkeley and Carl Lipscombe, the deputy director of BAJI.
