Women's rights and child marriage in India

Last month an Uber driver raped a woman in India and it made international headlines. It followed a series of rape stories which have made global headlines in the last couple of years. Manisha Gupte, a leader in the gender and health rights movement of India joins us to discuss the status of women's rights in India. She’s worked on women’s issues since the 1970's. Gupte co-founded Mahila Saravangeen Utkarsh Mandal (MASUM), a rural women’s rights organization in India’s Maharashtr State. She co-edited the book ‘Honour’ and Women’s Rights: South Asian Perspectives. Gupte’s U.S. visit was sponsored by American Jewish World Service (AJWS). MASUM has partnered with AJWS to study early and child marriage in India.
