At the young age of 14, William Walker graduated college and pursued a career as a journalist, lawyer, and physician. But Walker was destined for more.

He aspired to become a filibuster, which during the 19th century referred to a person who carried on a freelance war in a foreign country.

For World History Moment, historian John Schmidt tells us the story of the day Walker invaded Nicaragua during their civil war on June 1, 1855.
