Yo Yo Ma Performs at Chicago’s South Side St. Sabina’s For Gun Violence Awareness
Cello legend, Yo Yo Ma, performs this Sunday, June 10th, 2018, 4pm at St. Sabina’s Catholic Church on Chicago’s South Side. He’ll play in support of Purpose Over Pain, “a parent advocacy group which works for stricter gun control legislation”. A project of the group is Notes for Peace, a songwriting collaboration between teaching musicians from the UK-based Irene Taylor Trust, the Civic Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to teach parents and family members who’ve lost young people to gun violence. For our Weekend Passport segment, we talk with Father Michael Pfleger, pastor at St. Sabina’s, and Pam Bosley, a member of Purpose Over Pain. Bosley composed a song in memory of her slain son, Terrell. Global citizen, Nari Safavi joins us.
