Simon Tran is a producer for Community Engagement and Events at WBEZ, where he produces many types of events, including live podcast tapings, community gatherings, and experiential storytelling events. He works with the Community Engagement and Events team to put on creative and dynamic programming from start to finish, working with reporters, newsroom producers, cultural and art organizations, and other storytellers at WBEZ and around Chicago.
A native of Washington State, Simon previously worked at cultural and art institutions such as Seattle Arts & Lectures, KCTS 9, Seattle Art Museum, and the University of Washington’s Department of Communication’s Civil Rights Pilgrimages. His interdisciplinary background led him to give museum tours, work at a public television station, and travel to Peru and the U.S Deep South to learn about arts politics and the Civil Rights movement, respectively.
Simon earned his B.A in Drama Performance and the Comparative History of Ideas, with a Diversity minor at the University of Washington in Seattle. He started his career in Chicago as an intern at WBEZ. He is also currently the Assistant Producer for The Moth in Chicago, and a former Project Inclusion Fellow at Chicago Sinfonietta. He’s excited to live in Chicago, taking in the glorious food scene and the ample opportunities to write, perform, and support the spectacular art and culture happening in the city.
