Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced a measure to the city council this week that will cut the head tax in half next year and do away with it by 2014.

The Independent Police Review Authority,  agency that takes complaints and investigates police misconduct in Chicago, is moving its headquarters from South Side to the North Side in an effort to save money.

Add to the ooops category: A $90 million overstatement of tax revenues has prompted Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle to fire Comptroller Constance Kravitz.

Opening statements are expected to resume Thursday in the public corruption trial of William Cellini.

In his opening statement for the prosecution on Wednesday, Greg Deis told jurors that Cellini wasn’t on the board of the Teachers Retirement System and yet he controlled how the agency invested some of its $30 billion in assets.

Sears is considering leaving Illinois for Ohio or Texas. Sears is in talks with officials regarding the company’s expiring tax incentives.  Sears is one of several companies threatening to leave the state following an increase in the corporate and personal income tax this year.
