Emily Graslie of The Field Museum joins Reset with her recommendations on what to see, hear and eat in and around Chicago this weekend. 

Plus, we check in with Gail Borden Public Library about their 15th annual Black History Family Festival on Saturday.

What to see

1. The Field Museum - Visit a new temporary exhibit, A Natural Talent: The Taxidermy of Carl Cotton, that opens Friday. 

2. The Fine Arts Building - Take a ride in one of the city’s last manually operated elevators or stop by the Performers Music store.

3. The International Museum of Surgical Science - Check out Bryan Northup’s solo exhibition, Sea Inside: Visioning Single-Use Plastic at the Cellular Level

What to hear

4. Makaya McCraven - The Chicago-based drummer, producer and self-proclaimed “beat scientist” makes his Chicago Symphony Center debut with In These TimesTickets start at $29.

5. Night of Ideas - Connect with thinkers and creators at this free, after-hours event on Thursday. There will be talks and presentations from folks around the city, including WBEZ’s own Natalie Moore.

6. The Wandering Boys - Catch their two full sets of Creedence Clearwater Revival bluegrass covers at The Hideout on Friday. Tickets start at $10. 

What to eat

7. Siam Marina in Tinley Park - If you’re in the mood for Thai cuisine, Emily recommends their Thai Banana Curry Duck.

8. Taste of Lebanon in Andersonville - This is the first restaurant Emily tried when she moved to Chicago, and she says it’s the best decision she ever made.

9. Somerset in Gold Coast - If you’re looking for a Valentine’s Day spot, or the best bread in town, Emily says Somerset won’t disappoint.

Other events to check out in the suburbs of Chicago:

10. Cocoa Crawl - Explore historic downtown Long Grove while sipping on cocoa and snacking on cocoa-inspired treats. There will be over two dozen merchants from 12-4 p.m. Saturday.

11. Brewers Rock Festival - Ten local brewery bands will take the stage on Saturday at the Wire in Berwyn to raise money for the Alliance for the Great Lakes. General admission, without beer sampling, starts at $15.

12. Black History Family Festival - Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin is holding its 15th annual Black History Family Festival. The event is free and will feature crafts, spoken word artists and games for young children.
