Fair Trade is meant to encourage people to make ethical purchases. World Fair Trade Day, a global effort to further the cause, is celebrated annually in Chicago. Commemorated on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, Chicago Fair Trade (CFT) bills itself as hosting “the biggest World Fair Trade Day celebration in the US.” Their 2018 expo is on Friday, May 11, along the Magnificent Mile. This year’s theme focuses on how local ethical fashion choices make a huge difference across the globe.

Worldview will renew its annual live broadcast from the expo on Michigan Avenue and at Fourth Presbyterian Church. CFT Executive Director Katherine Bissell Cordova will give us a preview. Joining her is Susan Wheeler Geraghty, owner of Susan Wheeler Design. She’s also founder of the Chicago Responsible Jewelry Conference. Wheeler was recently in Colombia touring mines with Fairmined.org.
