To celebrate their 40th anniversary, the Black Ensemble Theater is presenting a season of their “Greatest Hits”. Those include some of their most enduring, critically acclaimed works. On this week’s Barber Shop Show, Jackie Taylor (founder of the Black Ensemble Theater) joined us. We also heard music from ensemble members Theo Huff and Shari Addison with piano accompaniment by Justin Dillard. Plus: Last week, we heard about the plight of Barbara Sizemore Academy. They were on the chopping block for closure from CPS. After receiving a reprieve this week from the Illinois state Charter Commission, we talk about what’s next for the school (as well as the two other schools saved from closure). For that conversation, we heard from: • Juan Perez, Jr., reporter at the Chicago Tribune, and • Dr. Carol Lee, chair of the Board of Director at the Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools. The Barber Shop Show airs live on Fridays at Noon on Vocalo 91.1FM. You can also stream live at vocalo.org. In addition, the show rebroadcasts on Saturdays at 9am on 91.1FM and on Sundays at 3pm on WBEZ 91.5FM
