Israeli soldiers shot and killed dozens of protesters at the Gaza border Monday, according to estimates by the Gaza Health Ministry. The killings happened simultaneously as U.S. and Israeli officials celebrated the official opening of an American embassy in Jerusalem. The Gaza Health Ministry reports more than 50 Palestinian protesters have been killed and more than 2,700 have been injured. Palestinian demonstrators have gathered along Gaza’s border the past several Fridays. Israeli forces claims Hamas is goading protesters into danger, while protesters claim they’re only exercising their non-violent right to return to homes lost after Israel’s founding in 1948.
