Advocates of the Illinois Senate Bill 3004 say that African American and Latino students are disproportionately suspended from schools, forcing them to lose out on instruction time. Backers of the bill say that now more than ever, after the unrest in Ferguson, it’s time for state lawmakers to pass the bill. The group Voices of Youth in Chicago will convene in Springfield Tuesday to push the issue. We catch up with them from the State Capitol to learn more about school discipline efforts.
