An Illinois family made it their mission to plant thousands of fruit-bearing trees in the Caribbean and Africa. In 2008, Mary McLaughlin, her husband. Mike, and her brother, Paul, established the not-for-profit Trees That Feed. The foundation has planted more than 16,000 fruit-bearing trees to feed people, create jobs, and help the environment. Trees That Feed also helps independent farmers, co-operatives, and commercially successful operations. The group started in Jamaica, and expanded to more countries, including Haiti, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Ghana. Mary joins us to discuss why she believes tree crops can help solve the world’s food concerns.
