Sean Casten: Illinois Congressman Won in Republican District on Climate Change Platform

Last week, Sean Casten was sworn in as Congressman to Illinois’ 6th district. By upsetting incumbent Rep. Peter Roskam, Casten became the first Democrat to represent Chicago’s western suburbs since 1972. He made climate change a central issue of his campaign. A trained scientist, Casten’s family has been involved in green entrepreneurship for decades. While his district leans conservative, Illinois’ 6th is home to strongholds of scientific knowledge, like Fermilab and Argonne National Laboratory.
