Fans (Ultras) of the Egyptian soccer club Zamalek clashed with police on Sunday, leaving at least 22 dead and dozens injured. Conflicting reports claim that ticketless fans were trying to enter the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo though a single, barbed wire entrance. The venue seats 30,000 fans but only 5,000 tickets were made available according to the Interior Ministry. Eyewitnesses claim that as the Ultras began to push into the stadium police fired tear gas at the crowd. Egyptian authorities have suspended league matches for the foreseeable future, the first time since a similar incident left 74 dead in 2012.
