A Cook County judge says the reporter who broke the Laquan McDonald story won’t have to reveal his confidential sources. Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke faces murder charges in the shooting. His attorneys want to know who tipped off journalist Jamie Kalven there was a dashcam video and civilian witnesses who’d seen McDonald walking away from officers when he was shot. A written order by Judge Vincent Gaughan calls the source irrelevant to the murder case. That could be grounds to block any effort to put Kalven on the witness stand again.
