A new report by The Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights and the Center for Studies and Support for Local Development says that laborers at the Alianza Fashion factory in Guatemala, who made clothes for bigretailers like JC Penney, Macy’s, Kohl’s and Wal-Mart, were deprived of more than 6 million dollars in back wages, benefits and pension funds after the company closed down last year. The Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights partnered on the report with the Center for Studies and Support for Local Development, which is based in Guatemala. Both organizations are demanding “that the over 60 U.S. and Canadian companies, retailers and labels step up and make these workers whole again.” Charles Kernaghan, executive director of the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights, joins us to discuss the report.
