A Chicago man is proposing a floating bike path along parts of the Chicago River—made out of 82-foot-long modular sections, resting on pontoons—to connect existing bike paths along the river. James Price Chuck pitched a pilot project—a short trail, running just south of Belmont Avenue, which he says would cost just $500,000—to a transportation committee connected to 33rd Ward Alderman Deb Mell’s office. Last month, the non-profit Active Transportation Alliance outlined a broad plan to connect river-front bike paths. That plan called for “a mix of design options” including floating trails.
