Protests continued Monday following the shooting death of 37-year-old Harith Augustus in the city’s South Shore neighborhood.

Augustus was fatally wounded Saturday evening after a brief encounter with officers on foot patrol. A Chicago police spokesman said he showed “characteristics of an armed person.”

Less than 24 hours after the shooting, the department released an edited 45-second video of body cam footage of the incident. Some residents called on Mayor Rahm Emanuel to resign.

So, what do Emanuel’s challengers in the 2019 municipal election think about the city’s handling of the incident?

Former Chicago Police Board president and mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot joins the Morning Shift to discuss the tensions in the community and the body cam video released after the shooting.
