The Illinois Primary Health Care Association is a non-profit trade organization that helps its members provide health care options for underserved, low-income, homeless and other communities that may otherwise not get the care they need.

Many of these communities are communities of color, so it came as a shock when one of their members was treated to a number of racist comments by then-CEO Bruce Johnson at a meeting in June.

Johnson has since resigned and the organization’s six-person executive committee has stepped down as well. WGN’s Lourdes Duarte sits down with Raul Garza of Aunt Martha’s Health and Wellness to discuss his interaction with Johnson and why it’s crucial for the IHPCA diversify its leadership.
