There are questions over whether Indiana’s Department of Child Services has enough money to operate effectively. There are concerns that there are not enough case workers, low pay and high turnover. Retired Judge Peter J. Nemeth served for 20 years as judge for the St. Joseph County Probate Court in South Bend, Indiana. He’s also a former mayor of the city. From the court, Nemeth handled juvenile and CHINS cases (Children In Need of Services). He retired in 2012 but remains critical of state control of DCS. He said DCS operated more efficiently when it was controlled by the county. Judge Nemeth joins us with details about what he would like to see change. (Photo: Flickr/d o l f i)
