A Rolling Stone article in November cast University of Virginia in a very public, negative light. The story focused on one student’s allegations that she was gang raped at a fraternity party on campus. The administration’s slow and lacking response led many readers to believe the school failed the victim. University of Virginia then moved to temporarily ban fraternities and sororities. Now, questions are being raised about the reporting, and the accuracy of the victim’s story. While Rolling Stone is working to retain the integrity of its journalism, rape victim advocates are calling for readers to focus on what they say is the true message-rape happening on campus and how universities need to work harder to protect victims.
