Mexico’s ongoing drug war is mounting casualties by the tens of thousands. For his latest film, Devil’s Freedom (La libertad del Diablo), documentarian Everardo González examines the violence from the perspectives of both victims and perpetrators. By interviewing all sides, including family members and police, González creates a more nuanced picture of the suffering caused by so many murdered and disappeared. WBEZ film contributor and director at Facets Chicago, Milos Stehlik, interviews the world’s great filmmakers. Today, he’ll chat with González about the challenges of his unique approach. Devil’s Freedom will play at the 2018 Doc 10 Film Festival, on Sunday, April 8, at 12:00 pm at Chicago’s Davis Theater.
