Last week, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that he would not seek re-election. During his tenure, he has emphasized Chicago’s stature as a “global city,” hosting businesses from around the world. Critics have argued that the emphasis on global business only serves the Loop, not more economically disenfranchised areas of the city. This has earned the Mayor a nickname of “Mayor 1%.” Mayor Emanuel has taken several business missions abroad, committed to expanding O’Hare airport’s international routes, took some of  the Paris climate commitments, and insisted on sanctuary status for the city. To discuss Mayor Emanuel’s global legacy, we’re joined by Juliana Kerr, director of Global Cities and Immigration at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and co-creator of the Chicago Forum on Global Cities and Kari Lydersen, co-director of the Social Justice News Nexus, a fellowship program at Medill at Northwestern University.
