The ancient Egyptian pharaohs stocked their royal tombs with treasures they wanted to use in the afterlife. But it didn’t do any good. Over the centuries, all the tombs in the Valley of the Kings were plundered by robbers. Still, there was the lost tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamen. Howard Carter, an archaeologist, thought the grave robbers might have missed Tut’s tomb. In 1914 he began looking for it. Historian John Schmidt tells us what happened next. (photo: (AP Photo/File))
