As of today, Wrigley is producing Skittles in the Chicago area. The company says it spent $50 million to expand production to the town of Yorkville, southwest of Chicago, where it has already been making Life Savers and Juicy Fruit.

Wrigley President Casey Keller says the Chicago area offers great transportation (to get ingredients in and Skittles out) and a great place to find highly-skilled workers.

“I have to say,” Keller says, “Skittles is probably one of the most complicated candies to make.”

Until now, Skittles have come only from Waco, Texas, but Wrigley says sales are up.

The new Skittles production line employs 75 workers.
