Communities who say they’ve suffered from police violence want an official role in negotiating a court agreement to address police abuse in Chicago. Activists  filed a lawsuit to try to bring the Chicago Police Department under court oversight. The city then moved to get that case dismissed. But later, when Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan Filed a similar suit, the Mayor said he’d negotiate with her. Those negotiations will likely result in a court-enforced agreement about how to address police violence. Families who have had a loved one fatally shot by police say they feel cut out of negotiations.
