What would you do if you had a million dollars to spend on projects in your neighborhood? Every year Chicago’s aldermen receive more than a million dollars to spend on improving their wards. How they spend that money is usually up to their discretion. But some aldermen are looking to change that with participatory budgeting, which gives community members a voice in how the funds are allocated. The process is already underway in communities throughout Chicago, including the 49th Ward, which includes Rogers Park, West Ridge and Edgewater. Alderman Joe Moore joins us on the line to discuss how he’s using participatory budgeting there.
