Milos Stehlik interviews the world’s great and innovative filmmakers. For today’s Master Class, he’ll chat with Belgian film director and screenwriter, Felix Van Groeningen. He was nominated for the Best Foreign Film Academy Award for The Broken Circle Breakdown. Van Groeningen is set to release his first English-language movie with the upcoming Beautiful Boy, starring Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet, Maura Tierney, and Amy Ryan. Based in part  on the memoir Beautiful Boy by David Sheff, the story centers on the years-long struggle of a family dealing with drug addiction. Stehlik, WBEZ’s film contributor and director at Facets Chicago, talks with Van Groeningen about the film and his challenges in producing for an English-speaking audience. “Beautiful Boy” is now showing in the Chicago area at AMC River East 21, Landmark Century Centre Cinema, and Century 12 Evanston/CinéArts 6 and XD.
