Workers continued to dismantle the limestone facade of the century-old St. John of God Church this week as they cataloged and stacked the pieces for an eventual move to Lake County where they will re-erect the exterior of the edifice on the exterior of a new St. Rafael the Archangel Roman Catholic church.

This blog has watched the project for three months, reporting the move and then noting when the work began in August. As of this week, the church’s colonnaded front porch is gone. And look at this section on the rear of the church—skinned of its limestone covering and its sturdy common brick substrate exposed:

One piece of limestone that isn’t in the yard: the church’s cornerstone. That piece was relaid and blessed by Cardinal Francis George last month in a ceremony on the site of the new St. Rafael of Archangel church. And here is what the looks like (as of a month ago, at least):
