The American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois says Chicago can and should do more to protect undocumented immigrants. It’s urging Mayor Rahm Emanuel and City Council to eliminate exemptions that allow Chicago police to help federal immigration authorities in certain cases. Those are cases where an individual has a criminal history or is in the city’s gang database.
