Post traumatic stress disorder is typically thought of as a condition that only affects veterans of war, but new research is showing an increase of civilians are being affected - particularly those who live in areas with high rates of violent crime. Research shows that Americans with traumatic injuries develop PTSD at rates comparable to war veterans.
