The Great Lakes hold 20 percent of the world’s fresh surface water. If climate change leads to increasingly severe droughts in places like California or Arizona, it’s easy to think those states might start eyeing the Great Lakes as a solution to their water woes. But right now, the requests for water aren’t coming from a thirsty West. They’re coming from our own backyard. Jared Teutsch is a water policy advocate at the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
